In January 2019, TowerStone (PTY) Ltd signed a 52% equity deal with Professor John Volmink and Professor Elias Links and in so doing, added a wealth of academic and adult education experience and knowledge to our Board.
Volmink is best known for his involvement in curriculum reform in post-apartheid South Africa and for his roles as Interim Vice-Chancellor of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) and as Acting Vice-Chancellor at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in 2017.
“Working with the TowerStone team speaks to my lifelong passion of playing a meaningful role in strengthening leadership and it gives me the opportunity to plough back my years of experience into the dynamic business sector in South Africa,” says Volmink.
Links brings decades of international experience to our company. With a PhD from the State University of New York, he served on the Tax Restructuring Commission, which led to his appointment to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. He has also served as a Financial Diplomat, Chief Director in the treasury, President Mandela’s ambassador to the European Union as well as ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg.
“After serving as an ambassador for four years, I resigned from public service and returned to South Africa where I joined the Santam executive committee and spent time teaching at the University of Stellenbosch Business School,” says Links. “I have been serving on the President’s B-BBEE Advisory Council since its inception 10 years ago and am involved in a number of social and development trusts and non-governmental organisations. This partnership with TowerStone is an opportunity for me to contribute my decades of experience to an organisation that is making significant inroads into activating leadership.”
Says Brian Eagar, CEO and a founder of TowerStone Leadership Centre: “We are very proud of the business that we have built and are honoured that Professor Volmink and Professor Links, who both have such significant professional and personal gravitas, have joined us. We look forward to the next decade of leadership engagement.”
